X-fi crystalizer games

The recent MQA kerfuffle got me curious to see if I could figure out what it was actually doing. I think it was sometimes described as the "bit crystalizer", and as I recall was described in the marketing as making compressed recordings sounds like masters without getting into any specifics remind you of anything?

Sort of a faux surround sound? Might be worth trying it in game and seeing if having it on or off affects your play. I just prefer everything off.

Decent headphones don't need the compander effect. This ensures it works correctly for games that use EAX effects to begin with, without adding reverb or chorus effects where they don't belong.
