I looked at his settings to see what was up, but I couldn't find anything out of order. Also, one thing that I did not find that concerned me was an option to scan files sent by instant messenger.
Is that possible in PC cillin? Thanks Linda. All forum topics Previous Topic Next Topic. Replies 4. Bobmitmen 3 Zinc. I used it for two years, while Comcast was my iSP. I was very satisfied with it. Decent suite of programs. Never had any problems with Virus or the like. With the McAfee suite I can personally attest to Webroot Spysweeper There are other options for Spyware, but the McAfee suite was actually pretty good.
If you can find a free version of Zone Alarm Thanks, I actually have Webroot Spysweeper now. It finds things and keeps them off the computer that other programs find but just done prevent from coming back. We'll see how that holds up. I'll post occasional updates as my usage progresses. Hopefully, this software won't negatively affect my PC and my browsing capabilities, but I have enough experience in this arena to solve many of my own problems if they should arise.
May 14, The only drawback I've noticed thus far is that my browser takes much longer to load than it did before the install. Once is pops up, though, it's good to go, so no worries really. I'm still rather impressed with how simple and user-friendly the download process was, though I'm sure the Comcast call centers were inundated with calls regarding the switch. Some virus protections will find and keep viruses in a quarenteen area. When you stop paying a yearly fee for these protections, they release all viruses back onto your computer, like Norton. Norton is awful. My experience is that it slows down internet connectivity and blocks many useful add ons. I'm a big fan of McAfee. You forget that you even have an antivirus running and it does a great job too. Personally, Ill stick to Mac products. I'm not saying that they are impenetrable but I haven't had a virus on my Mac laptop nor any security software installed since I bought it 3 years ago.
Then again, if it is free, Ill take it. In my years of experience i have found software such as AVG, Kaspersky etc. The best is always the company that has the largest knowledge base on Viruses, which happens to be both McAfee and Symantec, Which one people choose of the two in my opinion is totally a personal decision, they are both very effective Programs. I personally use Norton Internet Security , have done so for a while, i'm always comparing and testing Norton against other brands, and i have never come across a program that does a better job,..
Why don't i use McAfee, I Personally don't like the interface, that's the only reason. Frankly, I don't like McAfee. It has allowed five infections within a few months to enter my computer. I'm not sure about Norton, but you'll definitely want to look into protection of some sort for your Mac I didn't know Comcast virus protection was offered free to all of their users.
I actually have a Mac and it's advised that virus protection software isn't needed. But I think I might take a look at my options because if something's free then heck, why not use it? I had AVG a couple years ago, then i changed to Panda, and now i am using Avira, which works pretty good. I did not have a good experience with Norton. I will consider the alternatives you suggest when i upgrade to my next laptop. It's not such a big deal in firefox, and I only started to notice the lag time after I switched from McAfee to Norton, so the troubleshooting ended there.
Thanks to all for the comments In the past I noticed how slow it was to load the browser, I mentioned it to a techie type guy and he said to clear the cookies and cache and that might help, I followed his instructions, I think it worked but I have to re-enter back some of my passwords that were stored in memory. CA makes a good anti-virus software too, but both McAfee and Norton are decent products. Also, never use the same password for multiple online shopping accounts or online banking portals, because if one is compromised, so are the rest.
